Have you been offered and accepted a place at our school?

What happens next?

We understand the transition into school is an important stage in your child’s life. Our team aim to make the process of settling into a new environment and meeting new people as smooth as possible, for both you and your child. Take a look below for further information.

Nursery

All children offered a place in Nursery to start in September are invited to attend 4 Rainbow sessions with a parent/carer. The sessions are held in July and are run by members of the Early Years team. Within the sessions the children are encouraged to take part in a range of activities similar to those they will experience in Nursery and each session ends with a story and song time. During the last session there is always a ‘teddy bears picnic’. In September two members of the Nursery Team visit each child in their homes for a ‘home visit’ or invite them into Nursery if they live too far away. The purpose of these visits is to begin to build up a relationship with each child and their families and to provide an opportunity for discussion on how the Nursery team can best support each individual child. The Nursery then opens for ‘play and stay’ sessions for a week each morning and afternoon where the children and their parent/carer are encouraged to attend together to familiarise themselves with the Nursery environment and for them to get to know the Nursery Team before the children can attend by themselves.

An information meeting for parent/carers is held at the beginning of September.

Reception

In July an information meeting is held for all parent /carers of children offered a place in Reception at Eastfield. All children who have not attended Eastfield Nursery receive a ‘Home/school’ visit by 2 members of the Reception team. The purpose of these visits is to begin to build up a relationship with each child and their families and to provide an opportunity for discussion on how the Reception team can best support each individual child. These children are also invited to attend ‘play and stay’ sessions with a parent/ carer which are held in the Reception classrooms. The sessions provide an opportunity for the children to meet some of the existing Reception pupils and staff and to take part in a variety of activities inside and outside. In the second half of the summer term the children attending Eastfield Nursery are brought over to spend time in the Reception environment and to meet the staff.
