We Love Reading
One of our main priorities, from our School Improvement Plan, for the coming academic year is to enhance the love of reading amongst all our pupils (and their families too!).
Part of that plan is to ignite excitement about texts, classical novels as well as new ones, with all our pupils. This is why we invited a theatre company in to bring The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, a fantasy novel for children by C. S. Lewis to life in our school. Years 3 and 4 were very lucky to share this wonderful experience.
Bikeability for Years 5 and 6
Bikeability is the nationally recognised cycle training programme.
It’s about acquiring the practical skills to cycle safely and with confidence on today’s roads. For children to participate in school Bikeability training, they must have basic riding skills (without stabilisers).
There are two Bikeability levels our children will be trained in:
Level 1 is designed to give children control over their bikes.
Level 2 will ensure children are prepared for short journeys such as cycling to school.
The aim is to keep our children safe whilst cycling in and around our school and further distances as they grow older. So far the instructors have been extremely pleased with the progress Year 5 and 6 pupils are making!
I would like to end by wishing Mr Statham a Happy 40th birthday. As tradition goes at Eastfield, he sat back and enjoyed a special birthday assembly looking back at the variety of hairstyles he has had over the years and thoroughly enjoyed joining in a dance with our dance leaders as the finale. What a great sport he is!
