Reading for Pleasure
Reading is a magical tool that unlocks learning for all our pupils. Please talk to your children to find out what their class novel is at the moment. Mrs Spence’s class recently completed theirs and are about to start another one. How exiting! Meanwhile, as a special treat, the children get to take home their teacher’s book. How wonderful is that!
The Sneaky Sweet Stealer by Chae Strathie
This week, Year 3 finished their class novel called The Sneaky Sweet Stealer by Chae Strathie. The novel was set in Cap’n Firebeard’s School for Pirates – the fiercest, baddest school on all the Seven Seas. Year 3 stepped aboard the pirate ship and learned how to become a real pirate. They read about the new term at Captain Firebeard’s School for Pirates, and Tommy, Jo, Milton and Spencer (characters from the novel) were back on board the Rusty Barnacle for another adventure. But something fishy was going on. Someone was stealing sweets from Liquorice Len’s tuck shop. When Tommy and friends found themselves in the frame, it was time to solve the swashbuckling mystery and find the culprit. But no one expected it to be a real-life sea monster!
Thank you to Chae Strathie for connecting with our pupils and staff on Twitter and putting hundreds of smiles on their faces. Some children thought all authors are hundreds of years old and no longer alive! Some thought they never speak to children or mere mortals like us! However Chae Strathie put an end to these thoughts and proved that even famous authors have time to chat to Eastfield children. As a thank you, they have written to him. Fingers crossed, if in London, he may actually pop in for a cuppa…
Enfield’s Gymnastics Festival
Years 3 and 4 and Years 5 and 6 entered the Borough Gymnastics Festival this week. Mrs Colocassis has been working with the children over this term and that hard work has truly paid off. I was in awe as I watched our children perform. Such great talent! Well done children, we are all extremely proud of you.
Eastfield’s Christmas Elves
The elves have been preparing stalls, games and yummy treats for our Christmas Fayre! It is straight after school on Thursday, 6th December. Please make sure you pop in for some festive cheer!
